About This Video

Let’s be real for a minute: the biggest smart home nightmare isn’t Wi‑Fi or a dead smart bulb—it’s water. In this video I test the Droplet Smart Home Water Sensor, a whole-home water monitor that clamps around your main pipe and gives you real-time flow and usage data. I walk through unboxing (seriously nice packaging), the super simple install (no tools—tighten the knob, connect Wi‑Fi in the app, do the toilet test), and then I show exactly what you get inside Home Assistant. Once it’s in Home Assistant, I immediately get live flow rate, water used, and some diagnostics like signal quality. I demo turning on water and watching gallons-per-minute and total gallons update in real time, and I also add it into the Home Assistant Energy dashboard under water so I can track consumption over time. The big takeaway: this complements traditional spot leak sensors because it monitors the entire house—even if you didn’t place a puck sensor in the “right” spot. My main complaint right now is that leak detection itself isn’t exposed to Home Assistant, which makes it harder to automatically trigger a shutoff valve. I talk about pairing it with something like my EcoNet Bulldog shutoff so you can get that “peace of mind” coverage—be smart, be safe, stay dry.
