In this video I walk through my own journey of setting up a watercolour palette, and why I keep coming back to the idea of a limited palette. I’m not trying to build the “perfect” palette here—I’m sharing the influences that helped me think more clearly about colour choices, mixing, and keeping things simple enough that I actually paint more. A palette can get complicated fast, and I’ve definitely gone through phases of adding colours, removing colours, and rethinking what I really need. I also point you toward a few artists and resources that shaped how I think about palette building—Jane Blundell’s Ultimate Mixing Palette, Liz Steel’s current palette, Lydia Makepeace’s essential colour list, and Alvaro Castagnet’s colour choices.
