I start with the drawing stage, focusing on getting the moose’s big shapes and proportions in place so the painting has a solid foundation. Once the sketch is set, I move into the first wash to establish the main light and shadow pattern and start suggesting the environment without overworking anything too early. After that, I build the painting up with a second wash and details, tightening edges where I want focus and keeping other areas softer so the moose still feels like it sits naturally in the scene. The goal here is to keep things simple and readable: big values first, then selective detail.
