About This Video

In this video I’m looking back on my first three years of learning watercolour and sharing the big lessons that actually moved the needle for me. It’s not a “perfect painting” kind of video—more of an honest overview of what I wish I understood earlier, what I spent too long overthinking, and what started to click once I put in the reps. If you’re new (or stuck), these are the kinds of mindset and practice shifts that can save you a lot of frustration. I talk about how consistency matters more than motivation, why simple exercises and small studies can teach you faster than always chasing finished pieces, and how learning to control water (and not fight it) is a huge part of getting cleaner results. I also touch on the value of limiting your palette, focusing on fundamentals like values and edges, and giving yourself permission to make “bad” paintings as part of the process. The goal is to help you keep painting, keep experimenting, and build your skills in a way that’s actually sustainable.
