About This Video

In this full process tutorial I paint a waterfront view of the Sultan Ahmet Mosque (the Blue Mosque) in Istanbul, starting from the drawing all the way through to the final details. I follow a clear, staged approach so you can see how I build the painting in layers: I begin with the drawing stage (getting the big shapes and perspective working), then move into a first wash to establish the main light and atmosphere, and then a second wash to deepen values and start carving out structure. After the bigger washes are down, I slow things down for the details—edges, dark accents, and the smaller architectural cues that help the mosque read without overworking it. One quick note: there were some video glitches, so a few parts of the first wash get skipped through. Even with that, you’ll still see the overall logic of how I place the washes and then refine the scene in the later passes. If you want to follow along, I used a reference photo by Ahmet Polat on Pexels as the starting point for the initial drawing.
