Sewed a cosy rib knit cardigan this week - beautiful fabric but definitely a challenge. A couple of new techniques made all the difference, and I'm so happy with the finish. A little sewing, a little life... happy Friday! Oh - and I'm going to participate in Vlogmas this year but on YouTube Shorts. 🎄 CHAPTERS: 0:00 Hello! 0:18 Cardigan Patterns 2:19 Fabric 4:01 Twin Needle 5:33 Facing 7:56 Reveal! 9:06 Cardigan Styling 10:43 Other Projects 12:14 Life KENNETH KING - Sewing buttons: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UM8BQPWHO0 FABRIC: Rayon - Scotland Knit in Denim 🔗 https://www.rickracktextiles.com/products/rayon-scotland-knit-assorted?_pos=1&_sid=3e8a9eeb8&_ss=r PATTERN: Butterick 3461 - long out of print! About This Video

This week I sewed a cosy rib knit cardigan, and honestly—this fabric was beautiful but definitely a bit of a challenge. I walk you through the cardigan patterns I considered (and what I actually used), then we get into the real star of the show: a rayon Scotland knit in a denim colourway that looks amazing but needs a little respect at the machine. If you’re sewing over 50 like me, you know I’m always chasing that sweet spot of comfort, polish, and “will I actually wear this?”—and this cardigan absolutely hits it. Two techniques made the biggest difference in the finish: using a twin needle for a more professional-looking hem/edge detail, and adding a facing to clean things up and help the cardigan behave. I share what worked, what I’d do again, and the little tweaks that matter when you want knit garments to look intentional instead of homemade (in the not-so-good way). Then I do the reveal, chat styling, mention a few other projects on my sewing table, and wrap up with a little life update—happy Friday. And yes, I’m doing Vlogmas this year… but in YouTube Shorts.
