About This Video

Gainward decided that launching a brand-new RTX 5080 model during a GPU shortage was a good idea… and somehow, it actually was. In this video I review the Gainward Phoenix, and I’ll say it immediately: I’m very impressed, and at the price I was able to buy it (here in Italy), I fully recommend it. I also touch on why the brand matters in the first place—warranty, long-term quality, and the kind of recurring defects some partners are known for—because a “cheap” GPU isn’t cheap anymore if it becomes a headache later. I go through the unboxing and design details: the card is heavy, feels premium, and uses a fully covered heatsink that I personally like. You get the basic adapter (no fancy accessories, no GPU stand), but you do get practical stuff like a dual BIOS switch in a convenient spot and a 3-pin RGB connector to sync other fans through the GPU. Performance and thermals are basically where they should be for the category, but what really surprised me is the noise: the fans are genuinely quiet, on par with higher-end models. The only real “catch” is software. It’s kind of sketchy-looking and ugly, but it’s feature-complete: RGB, fan curve, OC, scanning—everything in one utility. If you’re shopping MSRP and this is one of the cheapest RTX 5080s you can actually buy, it has my approval—especially if it’s 50 bucks less than the alternatives.
