This is what happens when you actually try to run a high-end GPU on a mini PC. • OCuLink vs USB4 — real performance difference • RTX 5080 on a mini PC — does it actually make sense? • Stability vs DEG1 (this is the big one) • Setup reality — what works, what breaks, what’s annoying • Real gameplay: from iGPU struggle → smooth 2K ultra • Geekbench results: → iGPU: ~31K → USB4: ~215K → OCuLink: ~240K ⚙️ Key takeaway The DEG2 doesn’t remove limitations — it removes failures. Same bandwidth as before… but now it actually runs high-end GPUs without crashing. 🧠 Who this is for This is for you if: • You run a mini PC and want real GPU power • You understand trade-offs (bandwidth vs stability) • You’re considering upgrading from DEG1 Not for you if: • You want plug-and-play simplicity • You care about clean desk aesthetics • You don’t want to deal with setup quirks ⏱️ Chapters 00:00 Intro — The problem with mini PC gaming 00:42 Unboxing & first impressions 01:25 Design & power delivery fix (DEG1 vs DEG2) 02:02 Setup reality (and that hidden switch…) 03:41 USB4 vs OCuLink explained 04:18 Real performance (RTX 5080 results) 07:00 Thermals & noise 07:24 Limitations 07:53 Final verdict 🔔 LIKE & SUBSCRIBE for more honest, in-depth tech reviews from real users, not scripted demos. 💬 Have a question? About This Video

Mini PC gaming has one big problem: most mini PCs are still iGPU machines, and marketing doesn’t change physics. In this video I tested the Minisforum DEG2 eGPU dock with a full RTX 5080 and I ran it the only way that matters—real use, real games, real stability. Minisforum already tried this with the DEG1, and the truth is it wasn’t reliable with high-end GPUs. The DEG2 is the second attempt, and the story here isn’t “wow, look at the specs”… it’s that it finally stops the crashes, black screens, and link drops. I tested USB4 and OCuLink side by side. On the X1 Lite 255, the iGPU scored ~31K in Geekbench OpenCL, then jumped to ~215K over USB4—huge upgrade, but you still feel inconsistency in heavy scenes. On OCuLink with the AI X1 Pro, I hit ~240K, which is only about 10–15% higher, but frame pacing and consistency are noticeably better. The bandwidth limit is still PCIe x4, so don’t expect desktop PCIe 4.0 x16 behavior, but the DEG2’s dedicated 8-pin EPS power line fixes what actually mattered: reliability. If you understand trade-offs and want raw, stable GPU power on a mini PC, this is the cleanest eGPU dock execution I’ve used.
