Minisforum N5 Pro review: a Ryzen AI 9-powered NAS that runs Windows, Linux, ECC RAM, OCuLink GPU, gaming, AI, and 24/7 workloads. Check it out on Amazon: N5 Pro 96GB ECC RAM/128GB: https://amzn.to/4puEvpJ N5 Pro (Barebone) 0GB/128GB: https://amzn.to/3Nhaexg The Minisforum N5 Pro isn’t a typical NAS. It’s a Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 system with ECC RAM support, OCuLink, and enough power to run Windows, Linux, Proxmox — or even a desktop GPU. In this review, I test the N5 Pro as: • A traditional multi-bay NAS • A Windows 11 Pro workstation • A virtualization host • A 24/7 server • And yes — a gaming PC via OCuLink I cover real-world power draw, thermals, and noise, including thermal imaging with and without the drive bays installed. Even under load, cooling stays controlled — no thermal drama. This system was tested in two configurations: • Barebones • Fully populated with 96GB ECC RAM, enabling large local AI models, shared CPU/GPU memory, and serious multitasking without cloud subscriptions. I also edited 4K video on it, tested DaVinci Resolve, and compared performance to a Mac-based workflow. Gaming? Integrated GPU is fine for older titles. Add a desktop GPU over OCuLink and this stops being “just a NAS” entirely. Pricing depends heavily on configuration. Barebones is significantly cheaper; the ECC build costs more — but that’s enterprise memory, not RGB decoration. Current pricing links are in the description. This isn’t for everyone. But if you want one machine that can be a NAS, server, workstation, and experimental platform — the N5 Pro is genuinely different. 🔔 LIKE & SUBSCRIBE for more honest, in-depth tech reviews from real users, not scripted demos. 💬 Have a question? About This Video

This video is my full real-world review of the Minisforum N5 Pro—officially a “NAS,” but honestly it’s the most misunderstood NAS I’ve tested because it behaves like a workstation and a server at the same time. I walk through the hardware (5-bay drive cage, tool-less trays, USB4 up front, dual Ethernet with 10GbE + 5GbE, PCIe Gen4 slot, and the big headline: OCuLink). Inside, it’s running a Ryzen AI 9 HX Pro 370 (Strix Point) with ECC DDR5 support, which is not what you expect in a typical file box. I tested it in two configs: a barebones unit and a fully loaded build with 96GB ECC RAM. I pulled the factory Miniscloud OS drive, installed Windows 11 Pro, and showed how it turns into a legit Windows machine with Remote Desktop, Hyper-V, Docker, SMB, and Storage Spaces. I also covered power draw (under 50W idle with five drives, ~120W typical NAS workloads), thermals with thermal imaging (no hotspots over ~50°C), and noise (a steady ~40dB hum). Then I did the “stupid” test: gaming. The iGPU is fine for older titles, but with an RTX 5080 over OCuLink it’s a full personality change—suddenly this thing isn’t “just a NAS” at all. Bottom line: if you want plug-and-play simplicity, look elsewhere. If you want one box that can be NAS + server + virtualization host + workstation (and even GPU-accelerated experiments), the N5 Pro is genuinely different.
