In this Sprinter van modification episode, I’m showing you one of those upgrades that’s right up there with our “must-haves”: Scheel Mann seats. If you’ve never heard of them, they’re German orthopedic driving seats—built for serious comfort and support whether you’re in a high-end sports car or, like us, living full-time in a 4x4 adventure van and driving long days into wild places. Our first Sprinter’s stock Mercedes seats were honestly awful—we couldn’t drive far without feeling crippled. This 2019 van came with better seats, but they still weren’t great. Kathy and I first sat in Scheel Mann seats at a van show and immediately knew we had to have them. They’re expensive, but for us they’ve been worth every penny: 10-way adjustability, heated seats, and (the game-changer) two armrests. With equal arm support, I can keep my hands at “ten and two” without leaning weird or ending up with shoulder and upper-body pain. Bonus: when we’re working, I can fold the seats forward to open up the space for the table and get a lot more done inside the van.
