About This Video

In this EARLY Caturday LIVE, I’m back in my happy place: swatching, mixing, and generally nerding out over my custom Roman Szmal palettes. I work on Bee Paper pre-cut 6x9 cotton paper and use my Princeton Aqua Elite Stroke brush (1/4 in) to pull clean washes and show how these colors behave when you start combining them. The whole point of this stream is exploration—seeing what happens when you push mixes lighter, darker, warmer, cooler, and figuring out which combos make those “I need this in my palette forever” neutrals. It’s also a classic Caturday vibe: paints, cats, and chat. And because livestreams can wander into real-life topics, I keep things cozy with our safe words “lumpy elephant”—if something feels too sensitive, we pivot right back to cats and watercolor. If you’re building a custom palette (or you’re just curious about Roman Szmal mixing potential), this session is basically a guided hangout on how I test color relationships in real time and decide what’s actually useful for painting.
