In this video I’m testing out the ARRTX 24 Colors watercolor paint set, and I’m also taking a look at the watercolor sketchbook that comes with it. I go through it the way I always do with new paints: I want to see how they activate, how strong the pigment feels, and whether the colors are actually useful for everyday sketching (especially when I’m doing quick cat studies). A 24-color set can be really tempting, so I’m focusing on whether it’s fun and practical, not just “pretty in the pan.” I also talk about the bigger question that always comes up with budget-friendly sets: lightfastness and long-term expectations. If you’re painting in a sketchbook for practice, studies, and Caturday-style fun, you can absolutely get a lot out of a set like this—but if you’re selling work or making pieces you want to last, you need to be more careful.
