Today I’m vlogging my first day of online university at UBC (freshman year), and honestly…I didn’t know if I was excited or not. Because of COVID I’m still at home, so it doesn’t feel like that “first day” moment I was imagining, and I’m also in the middle of redoing my room—so everything is messy and chaotic right before my 11am Zoom class. I keep it super real: I barely get ready, set up my laptop + iPad Pro, and just try to get through the morning. I take you with me through my first synchronous English class (including my mic not working and me having to type my intro), then I head out for lunch and use a coupon for poke. After that I do a quick Walmart haul—Cheetos (because I’m obsessed), a free San Pellegrino from my poke order, sticky notes for my to-do lists, and mushrooms (my favorite vegetable). The rest of the day is basically me realizing how much homework I already have, dealing with an asynchronous class that’s just assignments, and talking about what I don’t love about online learning—especially paying so much for school while missing out on the move-out/dorm experience I’ve been looking forward to for years.
