This was our first time ever doing Europe, and we didn’t dip a toe in—we cannonballed. Seven countries in three weeks for our anniversary, starting in Frankfurt and ending with trains, rentals, metros, and a whole lot of walking (and gelato). We hit the big postcard stuff—Römerberg Square, cathedrals, the Duomo rooftop in Milan, Vatican City, the Colosseum, Sagrada Familia, Eiffel Tower sparkles, and Amsterdam canals—but we also talked about the stuff that actually matters when you’re living it: jet lag, rain days, finding bathrooms, figuring out metros, and how fast your feet can quit on you. Because this is still Don’s Life, my brain stayed in “car mode” the entire trip. I was spotting Ferraris, Porsches, a Bugatti Veyron getting unloaded, and even a random F-150 in an Amsterdam parkade—while also learning Europe’s driving reality: tiny streets, tiny cars, and speed enforcement that doesn’t play (Italy’s tutor system is basically a speed test and a math test rolled into one). My biggest takeaways: go small on the rental, plan around walking and transit, book the Anne Frank House way ahead, download the Flush app, and accept that every great trip ends too soon… but the memories (and credit card bills) last forever.
