Today I’m putting the Hovsco HovBeta folding e-bike in the worst kind of “real world” test—snow, ice, slush, and cold—because perfect weather reviews don’t tell you much. I walk through assembly (most of it comes pre-built), plus a few tips that’ll save you time: lay all the packaging and small boxes out first, watch the cable routing when you unfold it so you don’t crimp anything, and don’t forget to remove the anti-rattle clip in the front brake caliper before installing the front wheel. I also cover the basics like tire pressure (20 PSI), checking alignment, and making sure the brakes are working before you ride. Once it’s outside, I break down what the specs actually feel like: 750W with around 1300W peak, hydraulic disc brakes, 20x4 fat tires, and a front suspension with lockout. The big highlight is the torque sensor—this thing responds to how hard I’m pedaling, so it feels smoother and more natural than a basic cadence sensor setup. In the snow it stayed planted way more than I expected, braking was solid (yes, wet brakes can squeak), and it climbed hills like a beast. For a folding e-bike, it’s honestly way more capable than it looks—and that “unassuming” vibe makes it even more fun.
