In this video, I take a deep dive into the oil analysis results from my 2022 Cadillac Escalade with the 6.2L L87 engine. After running Mobil 1 Supercar 0W40 for about 5,000 km, I sent a sample to a lab to see what’s actually happening inside the engine — including wear metals, contamination, and oil condition. We go through the report line by line, explain what each number means, and compare it to known acceptable ranges so you can understand whether these results are normal or something to watch. The good news? The engine itself looks healthy with low wear metals. But there is one interesting finding — fuel dilution — and in this video I break down what that means and the most likely causes based on real-world driving conditions like short trips, cold weather, and idling. I also compare these results to my previous oil analysis on my 2021 GMC Sierra 6.2L, where we’re tracking higher iron levels and testing whether switching to 0W40 oil and getting out of winter conditions will make a difference. About This Video

I just got the oil analysis back for our 2022 Cadillac Escalade with the 6.2L L87 — yes, the one that was part of the active recall, and it passed the Pico test. I ran Mobil 1 Supercar 0W-40 for about 5,000 km and sent a sample to the lab so we could see what’s actually going on inside the engine. The cool part is this report includes virgin oil data, so we can compare brand-new oil to the used sample side-by-side. Right out of the gate, the lab rated the engine an “A” for cylinders, pistons, and rings, and the wear metals backed that up. We go line by line through iron, aluminum, copper, lead, tin, and chromium, and my take is the wear is low across the board. Iron came in at 20 ppm, which I consider very solid for this interval, especially when you compare it to my 2021 Sierra 6.2L sample that showed 60 ppm on 0W-20. But here’s the thing I didn’t expect: fuel dilution. The report flags it as “yes,” and you can see it in the viscosity drop — the oil definitely thinned out. I break down what fuel dilution means, why it matters, and my most likely causes in the real world: short trips, lots of idling/remote starts, cold Canadian winter starts, and direct injection design. Bottom line: the engine looks healthy, but I’m watching the oil condition closely and we’ll confirm the trend with the next 5,000 km test.
