In this video I install and review the ANCEL BS200 engine “superstarter” and Bluetooth battery monitor, and honestly…it’s one of the easiest battery-related installs I’ve done. Right out of the box you get the BS200, a manual, temporary clamp leads, and zip ties because the whole point is to leave it mounted in the vehicle so it’s always ready. The big difference here is it’s not a lithium jump pack—there’s no battery inside. It’s a super capacitor, rated to work from about -40 all the way up to 80°C, and it’s designed to avoid the swelling/overheating/fire concerns people worry about with lithium packs. I used my daughter’s 2013 Subaru Forester as a real-world daily driver test because this unit is meant for smaller engines (3.0L or less), and I wasn’t convinced her battery was healthy. Sure enough, my battery test showed 92% state of charge but only 49% state of health, and the cold cranking amps were way down (566 vs. an 800 CCA rating). After a quick initial USB-C charge and pairing the app, I mounted it, wired it in, and tested starts in the garage and then outside in below-zero weather. Even with the car battery showing only 36% and the BS200 at 87%, it still started the vehicle and I could see the starter current, cranking voltage, history, alerts, and charging behavior right in the app. Bottom line: it works as designed, but I still recommend keeping a healthy battery—this just takes the heavy lifting off your starter load on small-displacement vehicles.
