YouTube, welcome back—today I’m making a melody from scratch in FL Studio, but the whole point of the video is the most overlooked “instrument” in sample making: silence. A lot of us try to fill the entire 8 bars with a million layers and just pray it sounds good, but I’m showing you how letting parts breathe is literally what makes the sample feel expensive. I start around 90–94 BPM with simple root notes (C# to F), then I layer higher chords on top and just go off ear—no crazy music theory, just experimenting until it sounds right. From there I build the vibe with a wavy Prophet-style key/pad, light saturation, a little EQ (pulling some harshness around ~600 Hz), chorus to widen, and subtle reverb. Then I add a vocal texture by recording my own vocal (because Splice wasn’t hitting), pitching it, and processing it with autotune, EQ, compression, delay, and the same reverb so everything feels like it’s in the same room. I keep the melodies in a similar frequency range to leave space for the drums to pop, then I throw simple, artist-friendly drums under it—unique hat movement, clean clap/snare accents, open hat, and a sub + kick to glue it together.
