About This Video

YouTube, what’s going on man—this video is me actually trying to make an underground beat in FL Studio. I’m not even gonna lie, I don’t really listen to underground like that (I know Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, all them), but after my last video I got intrigued and spent the past couple days tapping in. So I wanted to take y’all on the whole journey: sound selection, melody choices, drums, and the little tricks that make it feel “underground” without me overthinking it. I start building the vibe with Serum plucks (I literally just got Serum, so in my head it’s distorted 808s + Serum right now), then I switch presets, automate halftime for different sections, and stack it with an Omnisphere bell and chords. The biggest takeaway is I’m not staring at theory the whole time—I’m listening for unique presets and melodies that stand out, even if it “doesn’t make sense” on paper. Then I add drums for context and keep it simple so the 808 can really talk, even using a note that’s technically out of key to create tension. I finish it off by bringing out the 808 root notes with a piano, then arrange and bounce the final beat. Also—drop underground artists/albums/producers for me to check out, because I might turn this into a series.
