This video is for people who are already considering applying to Peck Academy. My goal isn’t to persuade you—it’s to give you clarity so you can decide if it’s actually the right fit. I walk through what’s changed in the instructional design job market, why “oversaturated” is usually the wrong framing, and what’s really happening instead: there are more applicants and more portfolios, but not an excess of high-quality work. Most candidates end up in what I call the “boring middle,” where their skills and projects look similar and they become almost invisible to hiring managers. I break down the major shifts I’m seeing: hiring expectations are higher, tool proficiency is now baseline, and the signals hiring managers use to evaluate candidates have changed. A Storyline course that’s technically functional doesn’t differentiate you anymore—reasoning and decision-making do. I explain the “new big three” hiring signals—judgment, iteration, and ambiguity tolerance—and why average portfolios fail because they show what was built, not why decisions were made, what constraints existed, or how the work evolved. Then I explain where Peck Academy fits: it’s not a content-creation program—it’s a decision-making program. I share who tends to succeed, who should not apply, the real risks (time, emotional discomfort, execution), and how to decide using a few simple questions focused on clarity over pressure.
