Curious how to go from idea to instructional design career? Download the Become an ID Roadmap to see the exact steps 👉 https://www.peckacademy.com/become-an-id-roadmap Ever wondered what modern ID prototypes actually look like in action? In this video I walk through five projects I’ve been building lately and show how I’m using voice assistants, scenario-based eLearning, a hands-on project lab, a skills assessment, and some very technical MCP experimentation to push my instructional design workflow forward. If you’re exploring ID or looking for inspiration for your next build, you’ll see what’s working for me and how you can adapt these ideas to your context. #InstructionalDesign #eLearning #aiineducation Using the affiliate links below will help support me and the content on this channel: ***Best AI Tools for Instructional Designers*** Synthesia: https://www.synthesia.io/?via=devlin WellSaid Labs: https://www.wellsaidlabs.com/?via=devlin Descript: https://www.descript.com/?lmref=jJTSTA Jasper: https://jasper.ai/?fpr=devlin44 Riverside: https://www.riverside.fm/?utm_campaign=campaign_5&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_source=rewardful&via=devlin ***Best Laptops for Instructional Designers*** Dell XPS 13: https://amz.run/6l1w 16-inch MacBook Pro: https://amz.run/6l1y Gigabyte Aero 17: https://amz.run/6l26 ***Best Books for Instructional Designers*** The Non-Designer’s Design Book: https://amzn.to/3kP0reO Map It: https://amzn.to/3f137mR eLearning and the Science of Instruction: https://amzn.to/3kNuBiF Design For How People Learn: https://amzn.to/3CLtrNM Michael Allen’s Guide to eLearning: https://amzn.to/31ZUbJB 00:00 AI-Powered Storyline Voice Assistant 01:31 Voice Assistant in Scenario-Based eLearning 02:43 Instructional Design Project Lab 07:18 Instructional Design Skills Assessment 08:08 Model Context Protocol (MCP)

About This Video

It’s been about a month since I posted, and I’ve been heads-down building a handful of prototypes that I’m genuinely excited about. In this video, I walk through five projects and show what “modern” instructional design prototyping can look like when you blend eLearning, scenario design, and AI. I start with a super simple Articulate Storyline prototype that uses an AI-powered voice assistant you interact with via voice (and the voice is finally lifelike enough to feel real-time). Then I show a more ambitious direction: a scenario-based “emergency control room” experience where you collaborate with an AI assistant, manage variables like system health/temperature/pressure, and—importantly—practice not trusting AI 100% of the time. Next, I share what I’ve been building for years: the Instructional Design Project Lab. It’s basically a mini master’s program in a practical, corporate-focused format—training request forms, kickoff prep, analysis, a needs assessment report, stakeholder communication, and deliverables that force you to stop being an “order taker” and start being a problem solver. I also preview an instructional design skills assessment I’m rolling out soon, and I nerd out on Model Context Protocol (MCP): building tools that let AI models safely access the data/software you actually use (like Slack workflows and financial forecasting). Finally, I talk about “life prototyping”—slowing my YouTube cadence to do deeper work, and exploring a potential move to Amsterdam.
