Happy New Year! In this video I’m counting down my top five hikes from 2025 — and every single one of them is inside Dartmoor National Park. If you’re coming down on holiday, or you live nearby and fancy a proper day out, use this as a reference point because there are some absolutely cracking routes in here (and plenty more that could’ve made the list). I’ve linked all five full hike videos so you can pick one and follow along. I start at number five with my “five-star hiking” loop from Fingle Bridge, climbing straight up to the Hunter’s Path for big valley views, ticking off Sharp Tor and Hunter’s Tor, and even spotting Castle Drogo, Britain’s youngest castle. Number four heads deep into North Dartmoor from Rattle Tor across the bleak, desolate moor to Dinger Tor, then over to the brilliant Lints Tor with one of my favourite views back along the West Okement Valley. Number three is a brilliant mixed route: stepping stones at Wistman’s Wood area (via the Hound of the Baskervilles track), then up to the very accessible (and busy) Combestone Tor before heading out into the quieter southern moor to an ancient cross and Ryder’s Hill. Number two is Dartmoor at its rugged best on the west side — Brat Tor, Widgery Cross, and Great Links Tor, which instantly became my favourite tor I’ve visited. And number one is my favourite hike I’ve ever done on this channel: Ten Tors in Ten Miles — brutal heat, magical views, ponies on Pill Tor, and a route that’s got a bit of something for everyone.
