Hello, ola and bonjour YouTube — it’s Dave, back out on Dartmoor for round two. In this one I’m on the western edge, parked behind the Dartmoor Inn, and I’m tackling a proper loop: over the river, up the brutally steep Brat Tor to Wiggery Cross, then pushing on to Great Links Tor (tour #55 on my “tour of the tors”), dropping down to Little Links (tour #56), and finishing on Arms Tor (tour #57) before heading back to the car. The big takeaway here is just how different Dartmoor feels when it actually gives you the views. Last time this area absolutely chewed me up and spat me out when I was ill — fog, misery, the lot. This time it’s chalk and cheese: clear views in all directions, proper Devon stretching out to the west, and Great Links absolutely stealing the show. It’s vast, covered in giant granite slabs and scattered rocks, and I genuinely think it might be my new favourite tor — even if Lints still has those ridiculous West Okement Valley views. I also talk through the reality of the terrain: boggy sections between tors, steep climbs (especially back up from Little Links), and a very important lesson coming off Arms Tor — don’t do what I did and try to “carve your way down” off the side. Stick to the trails, because rock-hopping down wet, slippery granite is not the one.
