In this video I review the Eurohike Tamar 2 — a proper budget-friendly two-person tent from Go Outdoors — and I run through the real pros and cons so you can decide if it’s right for you before you buy. The big headline is the price: I paid £39 and I’ve seen it as low as £30 on offer, and for that money I genuinely think it’s worth it if you’re starting out. It’s also really easy to pitch thanks to the simple two-pole setup, which makes it a solid first tent for beginners getting into wild camping. I also talk about the bits people don’t always mention: the bag is the biggest weak point for me because the zip ripped off in bad weather when I was trying to pack it away on Westmill Tour, so it ended up held together with a carabiner. Pack size is another thing — even when the bag worked, it always lived on the outside of my 65L pack. On the plus side, I like the vent lid being permanently attached (less faff in high winds), it’s surprisingly spacious inside, and I’ve never had issues with leaks or condensation. Finally, I cover weight (2.75kg), colour/stealth camping considerations (red is not subtle), and the big test: it handled a full-on storm and wind gusts around 50mph on Dartmoor without poles snapping, pegs bending, or the tent ripping. For a cheap tent, it’s tougher than you’d think.
