Good evening, YouTube — it’s Dave, and I’m back out on Dartmoor for an unseasonably cold and properly windy wild camp up on East Mill Tor. I headed up after work feeling a bit rough (this coldy thing has been hanging around for weeks), met up with Neil from Forzians Hiking, Camping and Outdoors, and then we did the usual Dartmoor dance: hunting for a pitch that isn’t either boggy or absolutely plastered in cow… with cows everywhere. By the time I got the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 up it was dark, but I still managed a decent pitch, which says a lot about how easy that tent is to throw up when you’re tired and it’s grim. In the night the wind just didn’t die down like it was meant to, and it was bitterly cold — the kind of cold where I’m sat there at half three in the morning with my hood up and my Trespass jacket on, thinking “yeah… I’m going to need a winter sleeping bag.” The wind also switched direction, so our “sheltered” spot turned into getting nailed in the morning. We packed up early, left no trace (apart from a bit of squished grass), and headed back down to the car park — with the tent soaked through from dew and Dartmoor being Dartmoor.
