In this video I take the 2025 Crivit 20L hiking backpack from Lidl out onto Dartmoor and give you my honest first impressions after actually using it. It’s only a tenner, so the big question is: brilliant bargain, or too cheap to be good? I’m on my fifth walk with it (a few short evening hikes plus one filmed hike coming later), because I always think it’s a bit disingenuous to “review” something straight out the box. For a 20L day pack, the size is spot on for what I’d take on a normal day hike—waterproofs, an extra layer, sun cream, sit mat, snacks—and it’s still not quite bursting. Feature-wise, it genuinely surprised me: stretchy bottle pockets, side compression straps (brilliant for keeping my tripod in place), a front zip that fits an OS map and compass perfectly, a top snack pocket with a key hook, reflective details, and even a hydration bladder sleeve and tube port. But the cheapness does show. The back mesh still gets sweaty (especially the small of my back), the waist strap is thin and can dig in when I’m scrambling on tors, one strap loop came loose almost immediately, there’s no rain cover, and the included whistle on mine doesn’t work. My verdict: fine if you hike a couple of times a year, but if you’re out regularly, I’d rather buy a decent brand second-hand (like my Low Alpine) and have something reliable for adventure after adventure.
