In this video I talk about my thoughts on the Mackie MR624 & JBL306p Mk2, and discuss why I considered keeping the Mackie MR624's. Both of these monitors had very low noise when, idle which was impressive. This video contains audio examples and my opinions on the two monitors. About This Video

In this video I break down two studio monitors I honestly never expected to like as much as I did: the Mackie MR624 and the JBL 306P MkII. Let me premise it with this—if I had a bigger budget, I’d probably be looking at something else. But for bang-for-buck, these two blew me away, and I wanted to give you my straight-up opinion with audio examples at the end so you can hear what I’m hearing in my room. I talk a lot about the waveguides, because that’s a huge part of why the JBLs impressed me back in the day, and why the Mackies surprised me now. The JBL waveguide is crazy good for the price, but in my room the Mackie dispersion felt almost equally good—maybe even better in certain spots when I’m not perfectly locked into the listening position. I also get into build/manufacturing differences (like the Mackie’s tweeter isolation inside the cabinet), how the transients feel compared to what I’m used to (Avantone CLA-10/NS10-style), and how both monitors handle low end. I kept everything set flat at 0 dB so the audio comparisons are as fair as possible—just remember, your room is going to change what you hear.
