Prime:vocal, available as standalone software as well as an ARA plug-in (Beta), you can treat a vocal in post-production to sound like it was recorded professionally, by using a combination of AI-powered clean-up and enhancement processes that are simple to apply.

About This Video

In this video I’m testing Sonible’s Prime:vocal and seeing how far it can take a vocal that isn’t “perfect” to begin with. Sonible Audio sent me a copy, and I’m running it in Studio One as an ARA plug-in (Event FX > Prime:vocal), so it scans the vocal, analyzes it, and then you can start dialing in the clean-up. I’m also doing this on an already mixed song to mimic that real-world scenario where you’ve extracted a vocal and want to remix it into a different beat. I walk through the main sections—noise/room reduction and vocal cleanup first, then spectral balance and dynamics. What I like is you get a visual readout of what it’s actually removing and changing (that pink spectral view makes it obvious how much room is getting reduced). In my test, it did a pretty solid job taking down room tone and exterior junk, but it’s not going to magically remove things like delay that are baked into the vocal mix. I also show the “difference” button so you can hear exactly what’s being removed, plus the automation option if you need different amounts of reduction in different sections. Overall, if you’re a bedroom producer who can’t always get the perfect take, Prime:vocal is a legit option—ARA in Studio One or standalone if you need it.
