About This Video

In this video I break down how I connect the Little One 8 summing mixer from start to finish, using my Antelope Audio Orion Synergy Core and Studio One 5.5 (and yes—this applies to Studio One 6 too). I show you exactly what cables you’ll need, why I chose balanced TRS connections on the Little One 8, and how my DB25-to-TRS snake comes out of the Orion’s line outputs so I can feed channels 1–8 on the summing mixer cleanly and in order. After the physical wiring, I jump into the Orion routing (Comp Play vs Comp Record) and then into Studio One’s I/O setup so the whole thing actually makes sense in the DAW. I set up outputs 3–10 as four stereo pairs (so I can sum buses like drums, vocals, synths, etc.), then bring the Little One 8’s stereo output back into Studio One on an input pair (I use 3–4) as “Sum In.” The key takeaway: you won’t hear anything until you create that return input and monitor/arm it, and you need an interface with extra outputs beyond your monitor outs if you want summing to be painless.
