About This Video
In this video I’m inside NI Maschine showing you the quickest way I’ve found to turn one specific sample into true mono (not just the mono “view” button that only changes the waveform display). I load up a Crate Cuts kit, isolate a sound (like the kick), and use a simple trick: iZotope Ozone Imager 2. It’s free, it’s fast, and you can actually see the stereo/mono behavior while you’re doing it. If I want pure mono, I just pull the width slider straight down and you’ll see the signal collapse to mono instantly.
Then I show you how to commit it so you’re not stacking plugins everywhere and chewing up CPU. I bounce/export that one sound, drag it back into the same spot, paste the original name back in (so my project stays organized), and truncate it cleanly at the zero crossing so it’s a single hit again. I also talk through the “why” briefly: mono can help clarity (especially for kick/low end), stereo width can be useful for keeping elements out of each other’s way, and going too wide can cause phase issues. Bottom line: this is a clean, repeatable way to mono any individual sound in Maschine.
