About This Video

In this video I’m checking out Auburn Sounds LENS, and the main reason I wanted to review it is simple: it’s a free plugin, and I genuinely like what Auburn Sounds puts out. LENS is basically a spectral dynamics / multiband-style compressor where you can choose anywhere from 18 up to 64 bands, and you can hear right away how it starts taming frequencies and reshaping the tone. I keep it pretty exploratory with you guys—less talking, more “let’s throw it on and listen.” I run it first on my drum bus so you can hear what it does to a raw-ish stem, then I dig into the controls: high/low attack and release, linking bands vs letting them work individually, sidechain width, plus wet/dry for parallel compression. One of my favorite parts is how you can set the high attack faster to clamp the top end quicker than the lows—super useful for controlling harshness without killing the whole groove. Then I switch over to vocals and show how LENS can tame high-end frequencies and help the vocal sit differently in the mix, almost like you’re creating a bit more headroom. The Vintage Drive surprised me too—there’s a legit tape-ish vibe you can dial in, which is wild for a free tool.
