About This Video

In this video I’m diving into Sonible smart:EQ 4 and showing you the new stuff that honestly blew me away. Full disclosure: Sonible sent me the plugin, but they had zero influence on what I say here—this is purely my opinion. I run it on a vocal first and show how it works as a standalone EQ: you pick your material profile (I go with “High” for this vocal), hit the analyze button, and it instantly calculates a curve based on what you feed it. It’s not “perfect like a human,” but for AI EQ it’s doing a seriously great job right out of the gate. Then I get into the controls that make it feel leap-years ahead of smart:EQ 3: smoothing (how sharp the curve gets), width (from narrow problem areas like sibilance to a wider overall shaping), and the Adaptive mode that works in real time—very “Soothe-like” in the way it can tame stuff that sticks out dynamically. I also show the Dynamics section where you can turn bands into dynamic EQ moves (even exaggerate the range to hear it), plus options like linear vs minimum phase and auto gain to keep you honest. Finally, I demo the Group feature for unmasking—getting a rap vocal and a Rhodes/keys part to play nice together on one screen. If you want a smart EQ that can guide you, speed up decisions, and help you learn what a mix might need, smart:EQ 4 is absolutely worth a look.
