About This Video

If you’ve been following robotic outdoor equipment, you’ve probably heard of Yarbo—and after living with it for a full year at my suburban home in Minnesota, I’ve got a pretty realistic take. I first saw Yarbo at CES and the modular idea instantly grabbed me, especially the robotic snowblower concept. But I’ll say it up front: this thing is not small and it’s definitely not plug-and-play. Setup is doable, but it’s more “prosumer project” than beginner smart home gadget, and you’ll need Ethernet for the RTK station (not just Wi‑Fi). Mapping is straightforward once you’re rolling, but placement of the RTK matters a lot—my pole even started leaning in softer soil, so I’m planning a permanent mount. Winter is where Yarbo shines for me. In heavy snow it was genuinely impressive, and being able to clear the driveway while I’m warm on the couch is hard to beat. It can still struggle at the end of the driveway after the city plow, and I did run into real-world issues like an auger freezing up in mixed rain/ice, and shear pins breaking (easy fix—if you have spares). Summer mowing was more mixed: the unit is honestly too big for my yard, GPS bounce near structures caused trouble in tight areas, and like basically every robot mower, edge cutting still needs cleanup. Overall, it’s a platform that’s improved a lot through firmware updates, and the support + iteration speed is a big reason I’m optimistic about what’s next (Pro module, trimmer, and the smaller M series).
