Please subscribe by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpZYk1Lmqna3TKUnGIq1FIg?sub_confirmation=1 In today’s video, I compare the original Elgato Prompter with the brand-new Elgato Prompter XL, walking through all the differences beyond just the size. I show what comes in the box, how each model mounts to different cameras, and how they handle setups with larger DSLR and mirrorless lenses. The new XL version includes a redesigned metal camera mount, a larger display that works almost like a full-size monitor, and far better support for long lenses. I also demonstrate how the XL can be positioned farther away while still being easy to read—great for presentations, video calls, and natural eyelines in talking-head videos. You’ll also see how both versions connect to your computer, how to flip and mirror the screens, and how the display differences affect real-world use cases like Keynote, script reading, and webcam setups. I also cover a few issues I ran into during testing: • Text Mode taking over the full display (and how to get control back) • Mouse input not registering in Display Mode and the fix that worked • Tips for arranging your Mac’s display order so everything works smoothly Whether you’re using a webcam, a mirrorless camera, or a large DSLR setup, this walkthrough should help you understand which model is the better fit for your workflow. About This Video

Elgato just released the new Prompter XL, so in this video I put it head-to-head with the original Elgato Prompter and focus on the differences that actually matter beyond “it’s bigger.” I walk through what comes in the box (including the step-up rings and the cable change from USB-A + adapter to USB-C to C), and I show how both models can work with webcams or real cameras. The biggest pain point with the original is the smaller camera mounting plate—if you’re running a larger DSLR or a mirrorless body with a longer lens, it can get awkward fast, and some people end up hanging the unit off the lens, which puts pressure where you don’t want it. With the XL, the redesigned metal mount is the real upgrade. It’s fully adjustable, supports bigger bodies and longer lenses way better, and the whole rig mounts in a more balanced way on a tripod (but it’s also noticeably heavier, so you need a sturdy tripod). The larger screen feels more like a full-size monitor, which makes scripts, Keynote, and video calls easier to read from farther away—and your eyeline looks more natural at distance. I also cover two issues I ran into (Text Mode taking over the display, and mouse input not working in Display Mode) and the fixes that got everything working smoothly on my Mac.
