About This Video

In this video I put the Ecovacs GOAT A3000 robot lawn mower through months of real yard time to see if it actually earns the “GOAT” nickname. The big headline is that it’s truly wire-free: no boundary wire to bury, no weird calibration rituals. I set up the charging dock and the GPS “beacon” base unit, connected everything in the Ecovacs app, and then let the mower auto-map my yard using its dual LiDAR and camera system. Watching it drive the perimeter on its own—hugging fences, patios, and recognizing where grass ends—felt like the most modern setup I’ve done on a mower. Once mapping was done, I focused on navigation, cut quality, edge performance, and obstacle avoidance. It mows in clean, straight lines, does an edge pass first, and then fills in the lawn like a robot vacuum would. The “TrueEdge” behavior got it impressively close to fences and borders (corners are still corners), and the AIVI 3D obstacle avoidance was the best I’ve seen—pets, people, random objects, it handled them without bumping. Add in fast charging (about 45 minutes), rain detection, and day-after-day reliability, and it ended up being a genuinely turnkey way to keep my lawn looking consistently great with almost no effort from me.
