About This Video

In this smart home tour, I’m in Lakeville, Minnesota at a home that started life in 1998 and was just renovated by Fieldstone Builders. What made this project wild is the “before” situation: everything was decentralized—gear stuffed in cabinets by the theater, basic phone-jack wiring, coax for TVs, and not much else. The big win here is we completely rewired the finished home without tearing into walls or ceilings. We pulled three Cat cables to every TV, ran every speaker back to the mechanical room, and set the foundation for a real, centralized system. From there, we took lighting control to the next level. Instead of a handful of smart switches, we replaced basically every switch and built out real scene control—plus panelized-style load control where it made sense. The whole point is avoiding “app overload,” because screens, thermostats, garage doors, audio, video, and more all want their own app. That’s why this home runs on Control4, tying everything into one interface—touch panels, fast source switching, and lighting scenes in the same place. We also get into the rack: clean J. Edison enclosures with intentional cooling, battery backup, Luxul switching, IP video distribution, multi-zone audio, and even DMX human-centric lighting for tunable white and full color in the showroom-style garage space.
