About This Video

I headed down to Crawley for a bit of a travel vlog busk… with a twist. We checked the car in, dumped stuff at the Travelodge, and I went hunting for a pitch. Crawley’s got these big open pedestrian areas, loads of pubs and places to eat, but it was surprisingly quiet—so I’m doing that classic busker thing of pacing about, trying to find somewhere with footfall without being right on top of people eating outside Prezzo’s. The best bit of the day was meeting Will Taylor. I reached out to him last January because he was absolutely killing it, and we finally got to play together in person. We had a laugh, tried a few songs (including one that’s very wordy and I definitely haven’t learned properly), chatted about writing something together, and had one of those “maybe we should’ve talked setlists before meeting up” moments. Behind the scenes, it was a proper graft: we drove down late after a charity gig, slept on the floor because an inflatable mattress gave up instantly, and my voice was feeling tired. In the end, I listened to wifey (she was totally right), didn’t push it, and we spent the next day doing jobs at the house instead—because sometimes the most “pro musician” thing you can do is rest and protect your voice.
