This one’s a proper “wing it in public” day: I’m down in Crawley and I finally get to busk with Will Taylor. We’ve been mates online for about a year (since he messaged me saying I was “killing it”), and we’ve been meaning to collaborate forever. We start off trying a song Will hasn’t heard, then we go for stuff we sort of both know… and, honestly, we fluff bits, forget changes, and laugh it off. That’s busking for you—sometimes you’re bluesy, sometimes you’re just surviving the chord changes. We end up having a good chat about streaming as well—how timing and the algorithm matters, why I’m strict on myself, and how I tend to do long streams (even though I probably shouldn’t). I talk about building a bigger song list during COVID, and why I get bored playing the same tunes, so I’m always trying to add variety.
