About This Video

I tested Rosebud AI, an AI game engine that claims it can make games instantly just from a text prompt. Inside the editor, you’ve basically got three things: the game preview, a chat where you tell the AI what to do, and the code/assets it generates. I started with the default platformer template and did the classic “break it then fix it” routine—made the level bigger (background vanished), told it the background disappeared, and it actually fixed it. Then I added more platforms, moving platforms (had to tell it not to fall through the world), an enemy with an AI-generated pixel sprite, and even a weapon system with bullets. After that, I did a few challenges to really stress-test it. First, I tried turning the platformer into a top-down IO-style fighting game (basically a Combat IO remake). It took a couple retries, but eventually I got top-down movement, enemies, attacks, and then I layered on features: bigger map, smaller players, attack animations, smarter enemy AI, random usernames, and finally a scoring system + leaderboard. Then I did the “make Minecraft” challenge—block placing/breaking, terrain, day/night, inventory, crafting, and more Minecraft by literally prompting “add Minecraft to Minecraft” and “add heaps of Minecraft.” Finally, I turned it into a horror game with a dark environment, a horror enemy that chases in range, and a jump scare system. The takeaway: it’s best step-by-step, but even a few prompts can get you surprisingly far.
