About This Video

In this video I made the same horror game four times… but I kept taking away time like a responsible developer who definitely makes good decisions. I started with the “1 day” version in Unity: a 3D horror platform maze where you collect coins to open a door while an enemy hunts you down. I grabbed a third-person starter controller, made the environment as dark as possible (instant horror, obviously), and gave the player a torch so you can actually see the mistakes I shipped. Then I built a platform-y level, added coins + a door, and brought back the same free enemy model from my AI horror game—except this time it follows you the whole map. To make it feel more like a horror enemy (and less like a confused Roomba), I made it randomly change speeds, then baked the jump scare into the enemy system so it can mess with you mid-run. After that I remade the concept in GameMaker at 10 hours, 1 hour, and 10 minutes. The 10-hour version adds randomly generated coin objectives and an endless enemy spawner—my “jump scare” is basically just realizing there are heaps of enemies. The 1-hour version is the stripped-down classic: dark level, red clone enemy, three coins, door, plus a random-interval jump scare. And the 10-minute version is… movement, enemy follows you, done. Beautiful.
