I’m Brandon, and in Storm Drill Day Part 1 I’m coming to you from Next Generation Bowlers Pro Shop inside AMF Stardust Lanes in Grove City for a straight-up fun one: drill day. I’m putting holes in three pieces I’ve been wanting to match up in my bag—an Equinox (my first one), my second Ion Max, and my second Gremlin Torx. And yeah, I know drilling multiples makes people raise an eyebrow, but sometimes you just need a different look, and this is one of the best ways to really learn what a ball can do for you.
In this video I walk through why I’m choosing specific layouts and what I’m trying to get out of each ball. On the Ion Max Pearl and the Equinox solid, I’m going with a 70 x 5 1/2 x 40 type of idea to get something longer and potentially more forward/tight rolling—while still having the option for more backend if I get under it and around it. The Equinox is specifically meant to complement my Ion Max that’s been burning up a little because of how strong that cover is on a pin-down look. Then I break down my plan for the Gremlin Torx (65 x 4 x 55) to get it to rev up stronger and be more continuous down lane, since my first one rolled a lot like my IQ Tour Solid but felt just a touch too clean.
