Sometimes equipment comes along that most of us average bowlers will truly wont have a use for. The Storm Concept seems to be a ball for the pros and for those who truly bowl on tough patterns.

About This Video

In this one I’m breaking down the Storm Concept on a semi-fresh house shot, and I’m just gonna say it up front: for most of us regular folk, this isn’t a “house shot ball.” I tried throwing it like I normally do and it flat out doesn’t like oil at all at box surface. This is Storm’s strongest cover paired with one of their weakest/lowest-diff cores (around 2.61 RG and 0.020 diff), so if you’re determined to use it on league, you’ve gotta get it into an early roll—slow down, get it down early, and basically roll it off your hand. One of the coolest things I noticed is how ridiculously fast it absorbs oil—like, no shammy needed. And just because you see my face in the video, don’t confuse that with the ball being bad. It’s not. Chris Via and other Storm staffers have literally shot 300 with it on US Open patterns, but you and I aren’t Chris Via, and this ball is built for tougher conditions and people who know how to use it. Could you make it work on a house shot? Maybe, if you can consistently slow down and create that early roll. For me, I see it as a niche but potentially beneficial tournament piece—especially on tougher or shorter patterns where control matters more than opening the lane.
