In this video I review the Shanling M3 Plus DAP, and I’ll tell you straight from the start: at around $469, I’m honestly amazed by what Shanling is delivering for basically the same money as the older M3X. I go over the build and design (my unit is the Mocha version, and I absolutely love the color), the layout (4.7 inch screen, volume wheel with silent clicks, 4.4mm balanced + 3.5mm single-ended), and the fact that the case is not included in the box. I also explain what really changes the day-to-day experience: Android 13, open Android with proper Play Store support, plus multiple working modes like Android mode, Prime (music-only) mode, USB DAC mode, Bluetooth amp mode, and even AirPlay. I noticed a small quirk in USB DAC mode (a short delay when you first hit play), but overall it works well. Sound-wise, the M3 Plus is classic Shanling: warm, smooth, colored, with extra bass/sub-bass, a super polite treble that won’t offend anyone, and a vivid midrange that makes most music feel dynamic and complete. It’s not a neutral DAP and it’s not my first pick for rock/metal, but for jazz, classical, EDM, pop, rap, and generally “refined” or commercial music, it’s incredibly enjoyable—and it’s also powerful enough to drive full-sized headphones surprisingly well for the price.
