About This Video

In this video I take a very honest look at something that always sparks debate: power cords. The Audience Forte f5 is, on paper, just a cable that connects your amp (kettle plug / IEC) to the wall or power strip. And yet, after testing and also confirming with multiple friends (I even borrowed another unit to double-check), I did hear a small but repeatable change in sound in certain setups. The big question is still “how is that even possible?”, because none of us could truly explain the mechanism—only the result. My main takeaway is that not every component is sensitive to power cord swaps. With DACs I couldn’t notice a difference, and with headphone amps it wasn’t a big change either. Where things got interesting was with speaker amplifiers, especially stronger ones (in my case, the KSS300 Plus), where the Audience cord brought a slightly warmer presentation, better bass definition, and improved instrument separation. That extra bass body can make the whole sound feel more complete and present, with male voices gaining weight, while female voices can feel a bit damped. I also explain why I think this can happen: the last meters of cable may act a bit like a filter, similar in concept to how power conditioners or even signal cables can subtly shape perceived frequency balance. I like the effect enough that I left it installed, but I’m not going to insist everyone needs this—your system has to actually take advantage of it.
