I like to push companies to improve their products, but usually that comes with a price hike. With the iBasso DX260 MKII, that didn’t happen: it stays at $949, yet it feels more like a brand-new DAP using the same chassis. In this video I go through what actually changed—hardware, battery behavior, Android version, and especially the sound—because pretty much everything is different under the hood. The first upgrade that hit me immediately is battery life and idle drain. The original DX260 could sit unused and still end up empty, but the MKII holds charge far better—I even left it as a USB dock with my PC off and it still had battery left. iBasso also moved to a more efficient Snapdragon 665, bumped internal storage from 64GB to 128GB, and made it faster (and smoother) for streaming and big offline libraries. Mango Mode is still here, the display is still bright and usable in daylight, and the OS is now Android 13 for longer app support. Sonically, the MKII is the real reason to upgrade. The original was a bit too “reference”: dry, clear, analytical. The MKII is more engaging, vivid, dynamic, with more soundstage depth and space between instruments—while staying natural. Power is solid for most headphones (Susvara Unveiled is at the limit), and with IEMs I heard zero background noise.
