Today I’m taking a deep dive into the HIFIMAN HE1000 Unveiled, and yes, it really is the most different (and best sounding) HE1000 version to date. The whole point of the Unveiled concept is simple: remove reflections. You take off what people call “cups” (they’re basically dust protections here), and you’re left with an exposed planar driver and magnets, with basically nothing behind them. That means no backwave reflections coming back into your ear as distortion, and in practice it translates into a smoother, more “grain-free” sound than the HE1000 Special Edition. I also talk about the scary part: daily usage. I was genuinely worried I’d kill them at home, but they survived my desk, dust, accidental touches, and even some light contact with metallic objects (not recommending it, just saying they don’t instantly die). The real danger is small metallic particles getting sucked into the driver chamber and puncturing that ultra-thin nano diaphragm, so I strongly recommend using the dust covers whenever you’re not listening. Sound-wise, the HE1000 Unveiled is wider, more holographic, and has stronger instrument separation and resolution—honestly closer to Susvara than to the HE1000 SE. Treble extends beautifully to 20 kHz with lots of air and shimmer, but it’s less fatiguing than the SE because the harshness/grain is basically gone. Bass is neutral in quantity but punchy, dynamics are excellent, and it gets loud cleanly without the distortion issues I ran into with the Special Edition.
