In this video I review the Elipson Heritage XLS 7, a French “mini speaker” that’s still pretty big and quite heavy (around 9.2 kg). It’s a 2-way bass reflex design with a 165mm paper cone woofer, a 22mm silk soft dome tweeter, and a super useful treble switch that lets me go from -2 dB to reference to +2 dB. Out of the box it’s a bright, open, airy speaker, so for most rooms and most people I recommend running it at -2 dB. I also talk about the included magnetic vintage-style grille (practical if you have kids/animals, but it does shave a bit off sound quality), and why I sometimes plug the front port with the included sponge to tighten things up. Sound-wise, the XLS 7 is all about a huge soundstage, snappy speed, and a very crystalline, cohesive presentation where you basically can’t hear the crossover. Bass is not the focus here: it rolls off hard below ~50 Hz, and it’s not warm or “oomphy,” so if you want boom-boom, you’ll want a subwoofer. Where it shines is acoustic music—female voices, piano, violin, classical, and anything recorded from real instruments—because it stays sweet, organic, and (surprisingly) zero-fatigue despite being bright. At the price, I consider it one of the best deals you can grab if that signature matches your music.
