In this video I reviewed the Ecoute TH1, a genuinely weird (in a good way) product: Bluetooth headphones with a balanced amp, DAC, and an actual tube inside. I go through what that means in real use, starting with the build—metal cups, metal adjustment mechanism, very smooth action—and the ergonomics. They don’t fold into a compact shape (only laterally), the pads are on the harder side and seem non-removable, but comfort is still good for me, with enough ear space. I also talk about the three modes: Bluetooth (main use), USB-C (using the internal DAC/amp like a USB dongle), and 3.5mm (either fully passive analog or feeding the internal stage). I also tested the “tube” part in practice: the tube lights up, stays cool, and—surprisingly—I hear no tube handling noise and no Bluetooth interference, even though tubes are usually sensitive. ANC is stronger than I expected from a first-gen tube Bluetooth headphone: no hiss on my unit, plus around ~5 dB extra isolation on top of already solid passive isolation. Sound-wise, in the default DAC/amp mode it’s detailed, somewhat brightish, close to neutral, with excellent control, holographic staging, and strong dynamics—but bass is not boosted and max volume is currently limited (~105 dB). In passive mode it turns bloomier, fuller and bassier, and Ecoute promised app/firmware-level sound tuning and a firmware update to remove the loudness cap, which would make TH1 even easier to recommend as a genuinely progressive headphone.
