In this Cornwall holiday-home project, I’m taking you into what might be my favourite room in the house: the newly converted smart home gym. It’s packed with the good stuff—Watson weights, Peloton, a proper 2.1 audio zone with an in-ceiling setup and a sub tucked in the corner, plus a swing-down Future Automation TV lift. I also show you the Control4 touchscreens and how we’re making the room feel like a premium space, not just a garage gym with a telly. The main focus is getting smart lighting in fast using Control4. I walk through fitting a Control4 mains-powered keypad (live in, neutral, and two switch wires) into a 47mm back box, then I jump into Composer Express on my phone to add the gym as a room, discover the touchscreen via SDPP, and identify the keypad. From there I add two dimmable loads (main spots and window spots), map them to the keypad loads, refresh the navigators, and you can literally see it all appear on the touchscreen in seconds. We finish with some of the “quality of life” programming—guest Wi‑Fi QR code, cleaning mode (every light to 100%), quick resets, auto-locking doors at midnight, and intercom/camera workflows that make the whole system feel effortless.
