In this update I’m back on a really exciting Control4 smart home project in Sussex, and I’ve brought Martyn from Cobalt Electrical onto the channel to share his side of the journey. Martyn originally came up to us in 2021 for our AOS 2.0 training, and hearing him call it a “game changer” for his business is exactly why we built the academy in the first place. He talks candidly about what it’s like to go from “doing electrics” to being genuinely confident selling, installing, and supporting smart home integration—with proper backup behind you. We also get into what this Sussex project actually looks like in the real world: a large new-build with a full Control4 system including smart lighting, smart heating, AV, and a cinema room. Martyn’s helping us build the rack for the job, and he makes a really important point—most people outside the industry don’t realise how much detail, planning, and high standards go into doing this properly, not just the programming. The best bit is the scalability: once the client sees what Control4 can do, the system is planned to expand into an entertainment space (outside bar/nightclub vibe), plus pool and garden room.
